چکیده

Objective The main purpose of the current study was to investigate the association between QTc and various insulin sensitive or insulin resistant adipocytokines such as leptin, adiponectin, RBP4, and PAI-1 as well as inflammatory markers, oxidative stress and endothelial function in patients with type 2 diabetes. Method QTc, blood and urine tests were performed in 101 type 2 diabetic patients hospitalized because of diabetic education and/or glycemic control. These measurements were performed early in the morning after overnight fasting. Results Significant positive correlation between QTc and serum leptin, RBP4, and adiponectin levels was obtained (P <0.0001, P =0.0009, P =0.0067, respectively), but there was no correlation with PAI-1. In addition, QTc was positively associated with hsCRP and fibrinogen (P =0.0396, P <0.0001, respectively). No correlation was obtained between QTc and FMD, reflecting vascular endothelial function, and urinary 8-iso-PGF2α, reflecting systemic oxidative stress. In stepwise multiple regression analysis, leptin and RBP4 had the significant association with QTc as a dependent variable (P =0.0413, P =0.0001, respectively). Conclusion These findings show that QTc positively correlates with adipocytokines, especially leptin and RBP4. Abbreviations QTc: corrected QT intervals, RBP4: retinol binding protein 4, PAI-1: plasminogen activator inhibitor-1, hsCRP: high sensitivity C reactive protein, FMD: flow-mediated vasodilatation.

Changes in QT interval before and after hemodialysis

Background: Cardiovascular mortality and morbidity are high in chronic renal failure (CRF) patients. Increased dispersion of QT intervals is known to predispose to ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. This study was conducted to assess the effect of hemodialysis (HD) on corrected QT (QTc) intervals and their dispersions (QTd) in chronic hemodialyzed patients. Methods: Fifty-eight p...

Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines in Omani Type 2 Diabetic Patients Presenting Anxiety and Depression

Background: The relationship of inflammatory cytokines with anxiety and depression has been reported, but their role in diabetic patients has not been fully elucidated. Objective: We examined whether an association between prevalence of anxiety and depression in Omani type-2 diabetic patients (n=30) and the levels of inflammatory markers such as IL-1β, TNF-α, IFN-γ and C-reactive protein (CRP) ...

Association between Serum Vitamin D Level and Glycemic and Inflammatory Markers in Non-obese Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Background: Low serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25(OH)D) has been shown to correlate with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The objective of this study was to investigate the association between serum 25(OH)D and glycemic and inflammatory markers in non-obese patients with T2DM. Methods: Eighty-four non-obese patients with T2DM were recruited in this cross-sectional study. Demog...

Serum IL-18 and hsCRP Correlate with Insulin Resistance without Effect of Calcitriol Treatment on Type 2 Diabetes

Background: Chronic low-grade systemic inflammation presented in Type 2 diabetes mellitus plays a major role in disease progression as well as development of micro- and macro-vascular complications of diabetes. Therefore, reducing inflammation can be beneficial in prevention of diabetes complications. Objectives: To investigate the association between insulin resistance and inflammatory markers...
